Google gives BigQuery some new UI Updates

How the new Feature makes work easier for Data Scientists und Engineers

With Google releasing quite a few new features lately, there are some new and handy features available in BigQuery’s UI as well.

So let’s see which of the following features are now new in the developer environment, how you can use them and what the benefits are [1]:

  • The first new feature is also my favorite. I waited so long for resizable columns for the Query result — now we finally have them. Especially when the result columns are long this is a big plus to look into the data.
  • Titles now expand when space is available for longer column names. Also it is very useful when doing AdHoc Analyses.
  • Google adjusted that tooltips no longer display text immediately when you hold the pointer over them with their reasoning of avoiding unnecessary distraction. To be honest, a feature that is not really important to me.
  • Try to press the F1 shortcut key will now supply you with more editor shortcuts.
