A role that is perhaps not so well known but can be found from time to time in job portals is that of the Data Coordinator. This article shortly explains what exactly they do and what do they earn for their job.
What does a Data Coordinator actually do?
The Data Coordinator is a data management expert which organizes the data within a company. Their main tasks are maintaining data integrity and security. They ensure that the data is correct, support the distribution of the data in the company, monitor data processes and support the area of data analysis [1]. Since the role is not yet as distinct as that of the Data Scientist or the Data Engineer, it may be that a Data Coordinator also takes on other cross-functional tasks. Of course, this varies by company and is also dependent on the size of the company.
How to become a Data Coordinator?
There is no specific training or study program for this (yet), but it probably doesn’t make sense either, as a Data Coordinator is likely to be taken as a position by someone who has previously been a Data Analyst, Data Engineer/Scientist or worked in Data Management, for example. Depending on the requirements, a Data Coordinator may provide more technical support or more business support in sharing data and creating data analysis.
How much do Data Coordinators earn?
The fact that the position is still relatively unknown is also apparent when looking for salary information. Here, for example, I have only found reliable figures from the USA, while in Europe, for example, there are hardly any figures. But at least you get a first feeling when you look at the figures from the US. Here, the average is $46,591 — the salary range typically falls between $41,045 and $53,425[2]. However, here the estimates go apart from one another, since a different source mentions here a higher average income of $78,534 [3].
